Happy summer from all of us at Babe Central! In the midst of all the fireworks, cookouts, vacations, family reunions, and fun in the sun, the Babes just wanted to stop by and say hello with a little summer news and our next season's itinerary!

Sally-Babe Fingerett was thrilled to discover that she's a part of an ongoing series called "The Secret History of the Chicago Music Scene!!"
Taken from a 1975 photo of Sally during her solo performing days, she's been cartooned by the talented graphic artist Steve Krakow (Pen name Plastic Crimewave). Along with an artful and funky bio, Sally is now a permanent part of his amazing collection of Art/History Cartoons published in the hip weekly newspaper, The Chicago Reader as part of a series titled "The Secret History Of Chicago Music." In addition to the 1/2 page one frame cartoon, Sally was interviewed live on WGN AM on "The Nick Digilio Show" Listen
Besides getting some "strokes" from her early Chicago days, Sally's been working on her collection of short stories for her "Mental Yentl Review" slated for fall of 2011 publication. She's mental alright!!
Babe-Deirdre Flint played the Central Pennsylvania Festival of the Arts last week in State College, Pa. A fellow babe from our cruise was there! Here's a picture of Deirdre at Central Pennsylvania Festival of the Arts.Since then, Deirdre has put down the guitar and picked up a pen she's taking a cartooning course from Jack Cassady www.toonmaker.com/ who is one of the best teacher's she's ever had. Below is a sample of her work.
Debi Smith-D.C.-Babe: LOCAL gig alert! Bring your picnic dinner, blankets and lawn chairs and relax with friends and family to see Debi playing with some of the best musicians in the D.C. area. Debi has been spending the summer writing (including Christmas songs commissioned by the National Men's Chorus for her December concert -- talk about Christmas in July!) and painting. Debi and her son, Lee, have Art being exhibited in an online gallery created by The Washington Post called, "Real Arts D.C." Check them out:

Nashville-Babe, Nancy Moran, writes in that she recently sang background vocals in the studio for a song called "Every Woman's song," co-written by Janis Ian and Japanese Sony Music recording artist, Angela Aki. The coolest part is that Nancy was singing right beside Maura O'Connell and Victoria Shaw while being directed by Janis Ian! On a completely unrelated note...Nancy also installed a metal tile backsplash in her kitchen all by herself ! See photo below
